King & Wood Mallesons has recruited Jerry Liu as an international partner to expand the firm’s global IP business, and he will be based in the Silicon Valley and Shanghai offices.

Liu – who specialises in IP areas such as patents, copyright, anti-piracy and anti-counterfeiting – is qualified to practise in China and the US. He is familiar with the media, computer and digital industries, and has experience negotiating and drafting cross-border agreements for high-tech companies in Silicon Valley.

He has been working in academia for many years, having joined the University of San Francisco as an academic director of the IP and technology law programmes. He was also a former assistant professor at the University of New Hampshire School of Law. Liu is currently a fellow at Stanford Law School’s Centre for Internet and Society.
