Linklaters has advised Japan Post Insurance (JPI) on an initial injection USD1 billion in its partnership with London-based investment management company Ashmore Group. The Linklaters team was led by Tokyo-based partners Tracy Whiriskey, global co-head of the firm’s insurance practice, and Yoshiyuki Asaoka, alongside London partner and global co-head of fintech Fionnghuala Griggs.
As part of the partnership, JPI plans to acquire up to 2.9% in Ashmore.
Ashmore will also act as the Japan life insurance group’s strategic partner in emerging market asset classes, providing investment strategies aligned with JPI’s investment and risk objectives, with the potential for further collaboration and capital allocation in the future.
