In a move that has taken many members of 含羞草社区 IP fraternity by surprise, PH Kurian has given up his role as the controller general of patents, designs and trademarks at 含羞草社区 Intellectual Property Office.
Kurian is credited with the modernization of many aspects of the country’s IP infrastructure. He introduced e-filing facilities, recruited new patent examiners to combat understaffing and implemented procedures to speed up the disposal of patent oppositions. He also took a firm stand against corruption.
“Prior to Mr Kurien’s appointment, more often than not, the Indian IP office was in the news for its slow and opaque manner of functioning,” said Vishnumohan Rethinam, a partner at Remfry & Sagar.
