South Korea’s DLG Law Corporation and AP Law Office in Bangkok have established a joint venture called DLG & AP, which is the first Korean law firm JV in Thailand, say both firms.
Won H Cho, the senior managing partner of DLG, told Asia Business Law Journal that his firm chose to establish the JV because they believed it would enable the provision of one-stop services for both advisory and litigation matters.
“When Korean law firms expand overseas, they typically send one or two Korean lawyers abroad and hire an additional one or two local lawyers. However, this approach limits the scope of operations they can handle and makes it particularly challenging to manage litigation cases when Korean companies face lawsuits abroad,” said Cho.
Cho said the JV aimed to create a combination of litigation and advisory services for Korean companies. AP has been an affiliate litigation firm with DLG since last year and its managing partner, Apiwat Narkchamnun, will serve as the inaugural managing partner of DLG & AP.
With more than a decade of expertise in dispute resolution, Narkchamnun will lead the joint venture law firm’s litigation and arbitration matters, while lawyers from DLG will handle corporate advisory services.
DLG & AP held its opening ceremony on 14 March at its office in 66 Tower, Bang Na district, Bangkok. The firms clarified that, under the JV’s establishment, the existing operations of the two law firms would continue to be conducted independently.
