The Supreme Court of India has the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to hold an inquiry into DLF Home Developers, saying multiple issues emerged from prospective buyers. The CBI has also been directed to investigate the statutory, regulatory and other authorities involved.

The court issued the direction during a case buyers filed against DFL for giving them flats with no independent water supply and incorrect road construction.

The court has observed that there is a “mismatch between the requirements of law and what actually may, or is alleged, to have happened”. The court also states that the representations DLF made to prospective buyers may not have been translated into reality.

The court also expressed concern that this has only shown the “tip of the provincial iceberg” in the real estate sector.

The court directed the CBI to conduct an inquiry because home buyers in India put their life savings into a property and such issues lead to failure in realisation of their life-long dreams. The court directed that all parties involved, whether impleaded in the present matter or otherwise, are to co-operate and assist with CBI’s inquiry.

The additional solicitor general, Suryaprakash V Raju, has been asked to assist the court with the matter after the CBI submits its findings/progress report before the court.

The next hearing is on 28 April 2026.
