DLA Piper has appointed Ed Sheremeta as co-head of real estate for its Tokyo office, relocating from Hong Kong.
“Working with Mick Kataoka, co-head of real estate in our Tokyo office, Ed will enhance our ability to serve clients effectively under Japanese law. This move follows shortly after the appointment of Partner Ciarán Londra to our Singapore office, further bolstering our regional presence, while Susheela Rivers continues to lead our Real Estate practice from Hong Kong,” Satpal Gobindpuri, regional managing partner and Masahiko Ishida, country managing partner in Japan at DLA Piper told Asia Business Law Journal.
Sheremeta, who is joining partner Mitsuharu Kataoka in Tokyo, brings almost three decades of experience after starting his career at McCarthy Tétrault as an associate in 1995. Among his other roles are his stint as a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom in 2007, and Ropes & Gray in 2015. Before joining Ropes & Gray, he had been working as a partner at DLA Piper in 2013 and rejoined the firm in 2021.
In his new role, Sheremeta will leverage his expertise in real estate investment and finance to enhance the firm’s client offerings in Japan. His expertise includes acquisitions and dispositions, private equity and institutional investments and joint ventures.
Earlier this year, DLA Piper added senior counsel Masahiro Wakabayashi and appointed Masahiko Ishida as the sole country managing partner in Japan. These moves highlight DLA Piper regional managing partner Satpal Gobindpuri’s belief in Tokyo’s key role in the firm’s long-term strategy and vision for Asia.
