CMS Singapore’s formal law alliance, CMS Holborn Asia, has expanded its banking and finance group with the recruitment of Ying Yi Liew as a director, who will lead the firm’s financial services regulatory practice.
Daniel Tan, head of finance at CMS Holborn Asia, told Asia Business Law Journal that Liew would be pivotal in shaping and driving the strategic direction of the firm’s regulatory services practice.
“She will be instrumental in developing and implementing client-centric solutions to meet the evolving regulatory landscape and will work closely with our international network to ensure seamless integration and collaboration across jurisdictions,” said Tan.
Previously working as a local principal, Liew spent more than a decade at Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow, the member firm of Baker McKenzie International in Singapore. She has also advised many financial institutions on complex regulatory matters, as well as applying for/securing licences, approvals, notifications, and exemptions with the Monetary Authority of Singapore. Before joining Baker in 2014, Liew started her career at Rajah & Tann Asia in 2011, one of Singapore’s four largest law firms.
Liew assists clients in developing their compliance framework including anti-money laundering, and provides guidance on third-party contractual agreements, ongoing compliance with conduct-of-business requirements, and regulatory issues related to misconduct and investigations.
“Ying Yi’s deep understanding of the financial services sector and her strategic insights will be invaluable as we continue to expand our presence in the region,” said Tan.
