Bae, Kim & Lee has strengthened its international arbitration practice with the onboarding of former A&O Shearman partner Chris Mainwaring-Taylor as a senior foreign attorney, boosting the firm’s capability to take on large-scale international disputes work frequently governed by English law.

Tony DongWook Kang, Bae, Kim & Lee’s international arbitration and cross-border litigation practice group head, said: “We are thrilled and proud to have Mainwaring-Taylor on board. By expanding the scope of cross-border works, we are now able to provide more global and specialised services regardless of its jurisdiction or governing law.”

Mainwaring-Taylor, who is an England and Wales-qualified solicitor with more than two decades of practising law, will be based in the firm’s Singapore office while also spending time at the Seoul headquarters.

The international arbitration specialist began his legal career at Allen & Overy in London as an associate in 2003 and served as a partner for more than 12 years. Having been based in major arbitral hubs such as London, Paris, Dubai and Singapore, he built and led the global firm’s international arbitration team in the Middle East as a Dubai-based partner between 2012 and 2018.

Mainwaring-Taylor specialises in energy, natural resources, power and infrastructure, with a strong emphasis on construction disputes. He has represented clients in large-scale projects including onshore and offshore LNG facilities, power plants, refineries, petrochemical complexes, ports, and commercial buildings across different jurisdictions.

Most recently, he served as president of an International Court of Arbitration tribunal in a Singapore-seated case concerning the supply and installation of manufacturing equipment in Asia.
