Anli Partners breaks into the North American market with the opening of its second overseas branch in Canada, which follows the first in Japan.

The new office is led by senior partner Richard Xu, who has dual legal qualifications in China and Canada. He has worked on international investments, M&A, IP, litigation and arbitration matters, as well as family trusts.

Xu runs the office with Sarah Huang, a regulated Canadian immigration consultant with extensive experience in Canadian immigration and work permit applications. James MacNutt, who will act as the office’s business adviser, is a retired lawyer and has been appointed as Queen’s counsel (now King’s counsel) since 1989.

Anli aims to expand its business in North America and other overseas regions through the Canadian office, which is on Prince Edward Island. Despite being Canada’s smallest province, Prince Edward Island has a geographical advantage of being close to Quebec – the country’s second biggest province – and the Canada-US border.
