Zhao Sheng Law Firm’s former managing partner Eric Liu has joined Haiwen & Partners to lift the cross-border M&A practice in the Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong offices.
After practising at Linklaters from 2006 to 2017, Liu moved to Zhao Sheng as a managing partner. The firm set up a joint office with Linklaters in the Shanghai Free-Trade Zone in 2018.
The new partner specialises in cross-border investment and M&A, private equity investment, and financial regulatory matters. One of his notable deals was acting for the Charoen Pokphand Group in its HKD72.7 billion (USD9.3 billion) acquisition of a 15.6% stake in Ping An Insurance Company.
He currently serves as an arbitrator at the Shanghai International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission.
Haiwen has made several strategic hires in the second half of this year, including three from Herbert Smith Freehills, two from Mayer Brown, Alibaba’s senior counsel Fu Duan, and international trade specialist Yuan Shuaiqi.
