Tahota Law Firm has opened its first branch in northeast China in Harbin to enhance its regional influence and extend its reach to Russia and northeast Asia.

Partner Zhang Chunguang will head the new branch, which has 40 professionals. It provides legal services in cross-border trade, dispute resolution, banking and finance, construction, tourism, agriculture, energy, healthcare, intellectual property, M&A and the digital economy.

In line with the central government’s initiative to revitalise the northeast region, Heilongjiang province, home to Harbin, is restructuring its key industries: equipment, food, energy and petrochemicals.

Heilongjiang is the most agriculture-dependent province in the northeast, with this industry last year contributing 22.2% to its total GDP, much higher than Liaoning’s 8.8% and Jilin’s 12.2%.
