Herbert Smith Freehills has appointed Gitta Satryani as the new managing partner of its Singapore office effective from 1 May 2025.

In an interview with Asia Business Law Journal, Satryani outlined her priorities for the office. “Our dual and equal strengths in disputes and transactional practices remain core to our success, with a strong focus on energy, private capital, infrastructure and tech,” she said.

Satryani, a partner in the firm’s international arbitration practice and head of its Southeast Asia disputes team, will take the helm for a three-year term. She succeeds Fatim Jumabhoy, the firm’s Asia head of employment law, who will continue her full-time practice at the Singapore office following the leadership transition.

Satryani joined Herbert Smith Freehills as a senior associate in 2009 and was later promoted to partnership in 2020.

As the newly appointed head, Satryani also identified Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and the Philippines as core jurisdictions for the firm’s focus.
