Halim Hong & Quek (HHQ) has hired Siva Kumar Kanagasabai as a senior partner and head of the Malysian firm’s dispute resolution practice to further strengthen its capabilities in this area.
“The appointment of Kumar reflects a deliberate strategic decision to strengthen our bench with a senior lawyer who brings not only technical excellence, but also the judgement, gravitas and commercial sensitivity required for high-stakes disputes,” Quek Ngee Meng, HHQ managing partner, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Ngee Meng said this hire was driven by the increase in demand from clients, particularly in complex commercial disputes, fraud and asset recovery, maritime matters and employment-related disputes.
Kanagasabai, previously a partner at Skrine for 30 years, joined HHQ with two associates. He specialises in fraud and asset recovery, maritime and shipping, commercial litigation and arbitration, and employment.
His role involved acting as a lead lawyer in high-value and complex disputes and providing strategic leadership and direction to the firm’s dispute resolution practice, said Ngee Meng. He will also mentor and develop the firm’s dispute resolution team and recruit lawyers for specialised areas within dispute resolution.
A third associate is set to join the firm’s dispute resolution team in February 2026. Ngee Meng confirmed that by the end of the year, the plan would be to increase the size of the practice by another 10 lawyers.
