Fieldfisher has welcomed the return of Margaret Tan back to the firm’s fold as a partner at the Shanghai office, strengthening the corporate practice in Greater China. She had earlier spent a year at the firm’s Shanghai office as of counsel.
Tan told China Business Law Journal that her role also included “co-ordinating matters relating to the Hong Kong office”.
With nearly 20 years of practice experience, Tan has worked for eight years at DLA Piper’s Shanghai and Hong Kong offices, where she rose from senior consultant to legal and tax manager. Previously, she had spent seven years as a senior consultant at the Shanghai office of Baker McKenzie, before joining Fieldfisher in Shanghai as of counsel.
Tan has longstanding experience in cross-border investment, M&A and compliance, with a focus on cross-border M&A, international corporate restructuring and regulatory compliance in Greater China. She has advised multinational Fortune 500 companies and global business groups, with experience across sectors including life sciences, medical devices, advanced manufacturing and insurance.
In the field of warranty and indemnity insurance for M&A, she has represented leading global insurers and brokers, providing PRC law underwriting services for transactions involving China.
On compliance and regulatory matters, Tan has also advised on environmental, social and governance (ESG) standards, environmental, health and safety compliance requirements, ESG disclosure reports for listed companies and industry licensing issues.
