The Lunar New Year period has ushered in a fresh start for several lawyers from international law firms jumping ship to leading PRC peers, including Zhong Lun, Jingtian & Gongcheng, JunHe and Han Kun Law Offices.
Zhong Lun Law Firm’s appointments were noteworthy, with two experienced talents coming on board. Gary Li, a former senior partner at Kirkland & Ellis’s corporate group has joined the PRC firm’s Hong Kong office as an international managing partner.
Li has extensive experience in private equity, cross-border financing and M&A. He has participated in landmark projects such as the USD3.16 billion acquisition of ChinData by a Bain Capital-led consortium.
Shanghai-based Anthony Zhao, Zhong Lun’s other international managing partner, said he expected to enhance the firm’s key practice areas of competitiveness in private equity and cross-border M&A.
Jingtian & Gongcheng bolstered its banking and finance practice with the recruitment of James Ma, a former corporate partner at Paul Hastings, to its Hong Kong office. Ma specialises in banking and finance and is well-versed in mining, real estate and international trade sectors.
JunHe has also bolstered the talent pool in Hong Kong, adding Lin Qi as a registered foreign lawyer, who was a former associate at Milbank.
Since January this year, Han Kun has brought in three lawyers from international law firms, including the latest addition of Peter Pang. The former Asia-Pacific counsel at Skadden has joined Han Kun’s New York office.
