The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has export incentives for shipments made through postal mode in electronic form, effective from 15 January 2026. The incentives have been extended as part of the duty drawback, remission of duties and taxes on exported products, and rebate of state and central taxes and levies schemes of the government.

To implement the benefits administratively, have been to the Postal Export (Electronic Declaration and Processing) Regulations, 2022.

Under the new framework, postal exports will be processed through an automated procedure connecting the Dak Niryat Kendra (DNK) portal with the Indian customs electronic data interchange system (ICES). DNK is the post office export centres located across the country, connecting them to the Indian postal service network.

The entire process of claim and filing documents has been made electronic, and exporters can register on the official portal and provide their bank account details to avail the benefits.

The move aims to boost e-commerce and micro, small and medium enterprises’ exports from India by providing a level playing field for cross-border e-commerce exporters. It is also projected that exporters based in small towns and remote areas relying on postal services will experience improved competitiveness.
