The establishment of the Korea desk, which adds to Bun & Associates’ long-standing Japan desk, is backed by nearly two decades of the Cambodian firm’s involvement in Korea-related transactions and relationships with Korean investors, law firms and other stakeholders, Korea desk head Currie Sun Min Lee told Asia Business Law Journal.

“The Korea desk will specifically focus on serving not only Korean investors but also Cambodian and Cambodia-situated clients working with Korean business in multiple sectors,” said Lee, who is a Korean international lawyer licensed in New York and is fluent in Korean and English.

In May this year, Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet made his first state visit to South Korea, signing 12 memoranda of understanding on investment and finance, the Cambodian Journalists Alliance Association .

Through the Korea desk, Bun & Associates, a full-service legal and tax firm founded in 2007, focuses on inbound FDI and M&A-related investments from South Korea, particularly in sectors such as infrastructure, energy, finance, technology, automotive, agriculture and manufacturing. The focus is also on outbound investments led by Cambodian businesses against the backdrop of increasing initiatives between Cambodia and South Korea to promote bilateral investment, says Lee.

But Lee clarifies that her firm has no plans to open an office in South Korea.

“We have a strong network of referral law firms with which we collaborate closely on both inbound and outbound matters. This network of top-tier full-service law firms provides us with the necessary support to service our clients,” said Lee.
