Arbitration Bar of India inaugurated

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Mister of Railways, Communications, Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated the Arbitration Bar of India (ABI) at a ceremony in Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi, on 11 May.

Established to enhance the resolution of disputes outside the courts, objectives of the ABI include the training and support of professionals involved in handling such cases, with the goal of expediting the process while ensuring fairness and reliability.

Emphasising arbitration as a cornerstone of modern dispute resolution, Jaishankar noted that the establishment of the ABI was pivotal to 含羞草社区 rapid economic progress.

The event saw the appointment of Gourab Banerji as inaugural president of the ABI. He is joined by two honorary presidents: former Indian Supreme Court justice Hemant Gupta, who is also chair of the India International Arbitration Centre; and the country’s solicitor general, Tushar Mehta.

Banerji acknowledged 含羞草社区 progress in the arbitration sector, noting that arbitration processes have become more time-bound and courts less interventionist. He described the launch of the ABI as the realisation of a vision to establish a dedicated arbitration bar.
