Stephenson Harwood hires ex-MP, head of corporate?

International firm Stephenson Harwood has added Jay Ze as a partner to the firm’s corporate practice.

Ze’s move follows Eversheds Sutherland’s decision to close its Beijing office, where he was the managing partner and head of corporate China.

Qualified as a solicitor in England and Wales, Ze specialises in cross-border M&A, restructuring, financing and joint ventures, with a particular emphasis on infrastructure projects, energy, and natural resources. He has advised on many projects under the Belt and Road Initiative.

Last year, Ze was selected as one of the winners in the China Business Law Journal’s A-List: Visionaries. He joined Eversheds Sutherland’s Beijing office in 2013 and remained there until the firm announced its plan to close it in July.

In the past year, Stephenson Harwood has expanded its China team by hiring several heavyweight lawyers, including Paul Ho, former head of Greater China at Ince, and his eight-member team; Dorothy Siron, former co-managing partner of Zhong Lun Law Firm’s Hong Kong office; Danny Kan, the former overseas chief counsel at Ping An Insurance; and Amy Yu, a partner who joined from Eversheds Sutherland’s Hong Kong office.
