Senior counsel Siraj Omar has launched a disputes-focused firm in Singapore, named Siraj Omar LLC, with co-founder Allister Tan, anticipating a rise in demand in this practice area.

Omar highlighted that the growth phases of economies such as Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines, along with the rapid expansion of commercial ties across Asia, are expected to generate more disputes.

“We anticipate there will be an increase in investment disputes … We also believe that the increased scrutiny over corporate governance will see more regulatory investigations and prosecutions,” Omar told Asia Business Law Journal.

Omar is a litigator with a career spanning nearly three decades, specialising in high-value commercial disputes. In 2008, he co-founded Premier Law, which later partnered with RPC in 2016 to form RPC Premier Law, where he served as a partner. Before co-founding Siraj Omar LLC, Omar was recently a managing director at Drew Napier.

Co-founder Tan brings experience from his tenure as a director of dispute resolution and arbitration at Drew & Napier, where he worked with Omar. They also worked together at RPC Premier Law, with Tan as a senior associate.

The other founding members of the team also come from Drew & Napier. They include director Larisa Cheng, previously a functional director, associate director Joelle Tan, senior associate Fitzgerald Hendroff and associate Robbie Tan.

The firm started its operations on 20 January and plans to redefine how legal disputes are addressed. “We hope to make a meaningful impact. We want our clients to see us not just as service providers but as partners in resolving their disputes,” Omar added.
