Nishimura & Asahi has strengthened its real estate offering and boosted its lawyer bench in Vietnam with the addition of new partner Nguyen Ngoc Phuc in Ho Chi Minh City.

Nguyen, a Vietnam-qualified lawyer specialising in real estate, M&A, corporate and finance with more than 25 years of legal experience, was most recently a partner at the Ho Chi Minh City office of Mori Hamada & Matsumoto.

The Ho Chi Minh City-based partner will focus on helping the firm expand the number of non-Japanese clients by drawing on his accumulated expertise in advising on real estate-related matters and connection built with clients over the years through managing his own legal practice, Nishimura & Asahi told Asia Business Law Journal.

Earlier in his legal career, he practised at the Ho Chi Minh City office of Australian law firm Allens for six years. In 2007, Nguyen established his own practice Garnet Law, which was later acquired in 2017 by ZICO Law Vietnam, which hired Nguyen as a partner.

Nishimura & Asahi launched its Ho Chi Minh City office in 2010 and opened its Hanoi office a year later.
