Miura & Partners has expanded its presence in Asia with the upcoming launch of a Bangkok office, the Japanese firm’s third outfit in Southeast Asia, to respond to strong requests from clients previously served via its Indonesia and Vietnam branches for the same support in Thailand.
Ryota Miura, founding partner of the Tokyo-based firm, told Asia Business Law Journal that the Bangkok office, which is scheduled to open in March next year, would focus on advising global companies on M&A in Thailand, as well as legal, tax and finance-related matters in co-operation with M&P Asia Corporation, a consulting firm specialising in Asia and emerging countries co-founded in 2021 by Miura & Partners.
“Utilising the firm’s regional presence in Japan, Indonesia and Vietnam, our firm will also assist Thai companies in expanding into as well as conducting M&A in those markets,” said Miura, a former Mori Hamada & Matsumoto partner who founded the firm in 2019 together with a team of attorneys.
To carry the functions set for the Bangkok office, which will also advise on dispute resolution, compliance and new business matters, Miura added that his firm would have three to four Thai lawyers with experience of working at international firms in Thailand as members of the Bangkok office team. Such members include former Anderson Mori & Tomotsune’s Bangkok partner Pitch Benjatikul, who had also previously worked at Thai law firm Thanathip & Partners and PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The firm has appointed Ryoichi Inoue, a head partner of the Asia practice with experience handling M&A transactions in Thailand and other Asian countries, to supervise the new Thai office team. Inoue will work alongside partner Taro Tanaka, a specialist in Asian dispute resolution, business and human rights with experience working for international organisations in Asia, who will be stationed in Thailand and Japan.
Miura & Partners has been on a global expansion in recent years. In April 2024, the firm opened a London officewhich followed the launch of its San Francisco and Jakarta outfits last year. In Asia, the firm also currently runs a Ho Chi Minh City office.
