RDS Partnership has strengthened its corporate practice with the appointment of two partners, Sharifah Hamzah and Hurriyyah Kamaruzzaman, to meet increasing demands in technology, energy and manufacturing.
Saravana Kumar, partner and head of tax, SST (sales and service tax) and customs at RDS Partnership, told Asia Business Law Journal that the firm’s move to strengthen its corporate practice was driven by multiple factors, including its strategic alliance with DeHeng Law Offices. RDS Partnership announced its strategic alliance with DeHeng Law Offices earlier this year.
“The corporate legal market in Malaysia and the broader region is at an inflexion point … We are seeing increasing transactional activity across key sectors such as technology, energy, [and] manufacturing, both locally and across Southeast Asia,” said Kumar.
Hamzah, who was a partner at Foong & Partners in 2019, brings more than 30 years of experience in project advisory, and has advised on construction, privatisation and PPP projects spanning Malaysia, Southeast Asia, the Middle East and South Asia, covering renewable energy, expressways, bridges, airports and more.
Meanwhile, Kamaruzzaman adds a decade of experience across corporate, commercial, real estate and corporate finance transactions. She worked as a legal associate at Zul Rafique & Partners with experience in project financing, conveyancing and commercial documentation in debt securities.
The appointments of Hamzah and Kamaruzzaman are part of a broader plan to expand the firm’s capabilities not only in corporate but in other practice areas. “While corporate is a key pillar, we are also looking at deepening our capabilities in Islamic finance, construction, regulatory advisory and niche areas such as technology and sustainability law,” said Kumar.
