Khaitan & Co has taken on two partners from the now dissolved law firm Thakker & Thakker in Mumbai. Ketan Kothari and Anand Mehta were hired to strengthen the firm’s corporate and tax teams.
“Their practice is an excellent fit and has strong synergies with the growth strategy of Khaitan & Co,” said Khaitan & Co partner Rabindra Jhunjhunwala.
Kothari, who is hired as a director, is a qualified chartered accountant. He was at several accounting firms before joining Thakker & Thakker, where he advised clients primarily on international tax issues, tax structuring for India entry strategy, taxation and exchange control implications of employee stock ownership plan grants and other equity awards to employees of Indian subsidiaries of multinational corporations.
With over 22 years of experience, Mehta specializes in M&A, India entry strategies, antitrust law, corporate and commercial laws and contract and securities laws. In addition to advising clients on expansion in India and joint venture formation, Mehta has also provided legal guidance on employment, real estate and IP matters.
Thakker & Thakker ended its operations at the end of 2010 following managing partner Bijesh Thakker’s decision to focus on charitable causes.
