Introduction
Aakash Bajaj is a partner in the dispute resolution group at Khaitan & Co’s Delhi office. He is also a registered Advocate-on-Record with the Supreme Court of India.
Bajaj has vast experience in diverse areas of law including constitutional law, laws relating to environment, mining, succession and inheritance, shareholder disputes, and other commercial laws. He regularly advises clients on complex litigations and multi-jurisdictional disputes before various courts in India as well as domestic arbitral tribunals and international arbitral tribunals (both institutional and ad hoc).
In the environmental law domain, Bajaj has represented leading pharmaceutical, fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), mining and steel companies across a range of forums. He has also consistently advised various companies and associations on issues regarding environmental and social governance (ESG).
Particularly skilled in advising on disputes related to mining laws, Bajaj has represented clients across various courts and tribunals in India, navigating this complex regulatory landscape with precision and foresight. He has been part of various important judgments of the Supreme Court on issues related to levy of royalty on minerals and mineral-bearing land, retrospective applicability of Direct Minerals Foundation (DMF) and National Mineral Exploration Trust (NMET), and the Coal Block Cancellation case. He has also represented clients in cases before the Supreme Court in relation to illegal mining in the states of Karnataka, Odisha and Goa.
