International law firm Herbert Smith Freehills has strengthened its private capital team in Asia with the addition of Anthony Vasey as a partner in Hong Kong.
Andy Blacoe, Asia head of corporate at Herbert Smith Freehills, said: “The city is a hub for funds investing across the region, and his [Vasey’s] reputation as a senior adviser is an important investment in our services to those clients.”
Vasey has more than 20 years of experience advising private equity firms, funds and companies on cross-border M&A, private credit and debt, and restructuring and insolvency. He was a partner at White & Case, handling the firm’s global M&A practice, and has been based in Hong Kong since 2012. He also worked at Slaughter and May for more than eight years.
His experience includes advising on significant deals such as the business combination of Colonnade Acquisition with Ouster, resulting in the latter becoming a publicly traded company on the NYSE. Vasey also participated in advising RRJ Capital on the buyout acquisition of Holding AG from HNA Group, as well as Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners on the divestment of a stake in the 595MW Changfang and Xidao offshore wind farm in Taiwan.
Vasey’s formal title will be legal manager starting from 2 September, until the necessary regulatory approvals are obtained for him to practise as a registered foreign lawyer.
