Introduction
Mary Zhu has accumulated extensive experience in managing legal risks in corporations and handling domestic and foreign-related commercial litigation and arbitration matters for over 20 years. She has been listed as a “leading lawyer” in dispute resolution/arbitration by Chambers for consecutive years and highly recommended by other legal ranking institutions. She is also an arbitrator at various arbitration institutions, including the China International Economic and Trade Arbitration Commission (CIETAC), the Beijing Arbitration Commission (BAC), the Sharm El Sheikh International Arbitration Centre (SHIAC), and the Shenzhen Court of International Arbitration (Shenzhen Arbitration Commission) (SCIA-SAC).
Zhu specialises in dealing with complicated commercial litigation and arbitration cases. Her clients include China National Petroleum Corporation, Sinopec, China National Offshore Oil Corporation, Sinochem, China Energy Engineering Corporation, China Electronics Corporation, Citic Group and Agricultural Bank of China. She has represented them in many arbitration and litigation cases before the CIETAC, the BAC, the SCIA-SAC, the SHIAC, the Supreme People’s Court and courts at various levels. Zhu has gained satisfactory results for clients in most of these cases.
Zhu was the deputy legal head of Sinochem Group, a Fortune 500 company, and is familiar with the business and legal practice in many fields, such as energy, chemical industry, real estate, finance and agriculture. With more than 10 years of experience in corporate equity, M&A, bond issuance, international trade and state-owned property transaction, she can quickly and accurately understand and respond to specific client needs and focus, reflect on problems from the perspectives of both external and in-house counsel, and formulate appropriate dispute resolution strategies.
Zhu has written and published more than 50 articles on practical arbitration issues. She has also led the writing of “Observations on the Practice of Judicial Review of Arbitration in China” (from 2018 to 2021), “Annual Observations on Commercial Mediation in China” (2020 and 2021), “Annual Observations on Investment Dispute Resolution in China” (a BIAC project), “A Research Report on Disputes in the Private Equity Fund Industry”, and “The Impact of COVID-19 on the Performance of International Trade Contracts and the Countermeasures” (a CIETAC project), and was involved in the State-Owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of the State Council’s research project on “Prevention of Legal Risks in Financing Trade” and “Prevention and Control of Risks of Legal Personality Denial in the Governance of State-Owned Enterprises”. All these have been well recognised by the industry.
