Introduction

Derrick Yang’s practice focuses on corporate, M&A, energy projects, compliance in connection with e-commerce and e-payments, and tax advice for M&As and high-net-worth individuals.

Yang has extensive experience assisting clients in complex cross-border M&A transactions. He has led in the structuring, negotiation and the regulatory processes to ensure that commercial objectives could be achieved. Given his background in tax, he is uniquely positioned and participated from the outset of the deal process to explore different structural alternatives for clients.

He represented internationally renowned PE funds (such as Permira, American Securities, Advantage Partners) and Peloton to close their first deals in Taiwan and helped with their integration. He was also engaged by VC, PE and institutional investors to assist with their investments in Taiwan and/or abroad in connection with corporate, financing, restructuring, strategic alliances and general compliance matters. Yang has assisted Provident, through a deSPAC merger transaction, to combine its business with Perfect, which subsequently led to its listing on the NYSE in 2022.

Yang also handled various infrastructure investments such as offshore wind farms, solar and gas-fired power plants for renowned global investors. He worked on ?rsted’s divestment of the 605MW Greater Changhua 1 Offshore Wind Farm to Caisse de dép?t et placement du Québec (CDPQ) and Cathay PE, and a more recent divestment of the 583MW Greater Changhua 4 Offshore Wind Farm to Cathay Life, which marked major milestones in Taiwan’s energy transactions.
