Introduction
Hendra Ong is a partner at Hanafiah Ponggawa & Partners (Dentons HPRP), joining the firm in 2007 after earning his LLM from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, Netherlands, and his first law degree from Universitas Pelita Harapan, Indonesia. He’s currently pursuing a doctorate at the same institution.
In transportation sector, Ong focuses on aviation, advising aircraft leasing companies, aircraft owners, financiers, airlines and MRO companies. During the COVID-19 pandemic, he played a key role in assisting aircraft owners with restructuring and repossessions. His clients in aviation industry include AERCAP, Textron Financial Corporation, Nordic Aviation Capital, and US Exim Bank.
Ong’s expertise extends to rail transportation, where he advises major Indonesian rail operators, such as MRT Jakarta, LRT Jabodebek, LRT Jakarta on construction, development, and operations. He’s also involved in infrastructure projects, covering transportation, ports, airports and energy infrastructure, working with clients like Pertamina Group and Priamanaya Group.
In corporate and commercial law, Ong assists major foreign and domestic investors with M&A, restructuring and other business activities in Indonesia. His notable clients include Amazon.com Inc., Arkema France and Cathay Financial Holding Co Ltd.
Ong’s achievements include recognition as a Leading Individual Lawyer by Legal 500 from 2022 to 2024, Distinguished Practitioner by Asialaw in 2023 and a spot on “40 under 40 Asia” by Asian Legal Business in 2017. This is also his second time being listed among Indonesia’s Top 100 Lawyers by Asian Business Law Journal, further validating his standing in the legal community.
