Introduction
Todung Mulya Lubis is?one of Indonesia’s most distinguished legal practitioners, widely admired for his intellectual depth, strategic foresight, and enduring contributions to the development of law and governance. With decades of experience spanning corporate, commercial, and dispute resolution practices, he has built a reputation as a formidable advocate whose influence extends beyond the courtroom into broader institutional and societal spheres.
In 1986, he founded the firm now known as LSM Law Firm (Lubis, Santosa & Partners), which has since evolved into a prominent legal practice under his stewardship. A?commitment to the prudent and principled application of legal expertise?has defined his leadership. Today, the firm serves a diverse clientele, including multinational corporations, government bodies, and private individuals, reflecting both its breadth of capability and the trust it commands in complex legal matters.
Lubis’s professional journey is marked by a series of significant leadership roles. He currently serves as commissioner of Indika Mineral Investindo,?and as chairman and independent director of Moya Holdings Asia. Beyond corporate governance, his dedication to legal education remains steadfast. Since 1975, he has lectured at the Faculty of Law, Universitas Indonesia, and has also contributed academically to Universitas Gadjah Mada, shaping generations of legal minds.
His public service extends into diplomacy and civil society. From 2018 to 2023, he represented Indonesia as ambassador to Norway and ?Iceland, strengthening bilateral relations and advancing Indonesia’s international presence. Earlier in his career, he played a vital role in civil society, serving as chairman of Indonesia Corruption Watch and as director of the Jakarta Legal Aid Institute (LBH Jakarta).
Academically accomplished, Lubis?has an LLM?from Harvard Law School and a PhD?from the University of California, Berkeley. His achievements have been recognised through prestigious awards and honorary titles. A prolific writer, he has also contributed extensively to discourse on law, governance?and human rights.
